The Modernist Asymmetric Flower Pot is a piece that interrogates the assumptions of the conventional plant pot. Where most pots are perfectly symmetrical — circular in plan, regular in profile — this pot makes deliberate departures from symmetry in ways that feel artistically considered rather than accidental. The opening is off-centre relative to the base; the walls rise at slightly different angles on different sides; the rim is not level but rises and falls in a gentle wave that gives the pot a sense of movement and direction. The plant placed within it becomes part of a composition that is, in some small way, a work of art.
Despite these formal innovations, the pot is entirely functional — it has a generous drainage hole, its interior is sized and proportioned correctly for a range of houseplant specimens, and the asymmetry of the form does not compromise its stability. The base is wide enough relative to the pot’s height to ensure it will not tip under the weight of a healthy, well-watered plant.
The glaze is a warm, neutral putty — a tone that reads as slightly different in every lighting condition, shifting from warm cream in natural daylight to a cooler grey under fluorescent light. This chameleonic quality makes it an extremely versatile piece that will work in virtually any interior colour scheme and with any plant. The surface is semi-matte, with a subtle texture that provides enough grip to make picking up the pot easy even with wet hands.
Hand-built from a fine white stoneware, this pot is a small-batch production piece made in limited numbers. It is dishwasher-safe and can be used outdoors in frost-free conditions.
